Brisbane Tolkien Fellowship meeting notes, Sunday 25th May 2014

The usual small group of enthusiasts got together at Proudfoot’s place, helped along of course by yummy hobbity food, to discuss ideas and set actions in place for activities coming up over the rest of this year. Main items discussed were:

  • Supanova Brisbane
  • Talks in libraries, July, August, September
  • Hobbit Picnic in the Park, Sunday Sept 20th
  • An Evening in Middle Earth dinner dance

Supanova, Brisbane

Agreed to try a larger 9’x9′ booth this time. Advantages are:

  • more room for the hobbit hole – will allow better viewing
  • more room for a better set up photo booth enabling donations to be collected easily
  • provision for members’ crafts to be displayed and sold for Fortinbras charity
  • need to have enough volunteers to ‘man’ the booth over the 3 days

Talks in libraries, July, August September

  • 6 talks aimed at adults have been booked over the 3 months – subjects range from dragons to movie locations to the publishing phenomenon that is Tolkien
  • 2 talks, 1 in July and 1 in September, aimed at children have been booked – Hobbit Story Time
  • Anyone wanting to participate in any or all of these talks please contact Peter Kenny

Hobbit Picnic in the Park – Saturday September 20th

  • will help celebrate Tolkien Week and Bilbo and Frodo’s birthdays
  • done in association with the Pyjama Foundation
  • BTF to be responsible for games and entertaining the children – Trevor Wheate to organise and MC games
  • Ideas for games required – please contact Trevor or Peter K
  • All welcome to attend – bring friends, family and dress in Middle-earth costume if possible

Barefoot Bowls event at Enogerra Bowls Club – Sunday September 28th, 1pm

An Evening in Middle Earth dinner dance

  • Tickets are up for sale –
  • Once tickets are bought you can select the table you wish to sit at –
  • Poster and flyers – Peter K to organise
  • Entertainment: – main act Martin Pearson; short cos play to open the dinner suggested – Trevor W and Greg C to discuss/organise; dico to finish night – suggestion to include rousing celtic music good for dancing as well as the usual “Nutbush” stuff
  • Table & hall decorations – Loretta and Kaja organising with the help of Voro and Robin – Noela, Trevor and others to help set up on the night.
  • Raffle prizes needed – several people have volunteered to ask organisations/individuals for donations. Spreadsheet set up to record businesses being approached so double-ups don’t occur. Any ideas for sponsors please contact Peter K or Robin.
